Ric Benefits

Discover how DG+ helped Ric clarify its extreme rainfall benefit program and build a modern Webflow site that makes parametric insurance easy to understand.

HIGHLIGHTS

Made parametric insurance intuitive

Reworked messaging and hierarchy so employers grasp the value immediately and employees can understand the benefit.

Humanized a technical product

Introducing Ric the beaver transformed a technical product into something warm, memorable, and easier to understand.

Built for launch and growth

Designed and developed a modern Webflow site that aligns messaging, structure, and visual identity.

Ric Benefits provides fast cash to employees when extreme weather disrupts daily life. Offered through employers, it automatically pays a fixed amount when rainfall at a covered location exceeds a set threshold. As climate-driven rainfall becomes more frequent, many households face financial gaps not covered by traditional insurance. Ric helps bridge that gap, giving employees quick support so they can recover and move forward.

THE CHALLENGE

Most insurance brands don't need to explain how they work. The categories carry that weight. Property, health, and life are familiar models, and people understand them before they ever see the brand. Ric doesn't have that advantage.

Ric is a rainfall-triggered employee benefit. It sits alongside traditional coverage, but instead of covering medical expenses, it's built for weather-related disruptions. When rainfall in a defined geographic area exceeds a set threshold, employees receive a fixed payout automatically. There's no claims process and no proof of loss required. Ric is a model most employers and employees haven't encountered before but is one that is equally beneficial. So, not only did Ric want to stand out visually, but the product itself needed to be explained succinctly.

SOLUTION

A character enters (Meet Ric)

At the outset of our partnership, Nakita, Ric’s founder, mentioned that she’d love for the brand to have a mascot someday. It wasn’t a priority for this phase and, with our tight timeline, it wasn’t in scope. Still, the idea stayed with us.

A rainfall-triggered insurance product grounded in water management naturally points to a beaver (or at least in our minds, it does); so we explored it.

Using AI as a creative tool, we rapidly prototyped and developed his visual world. When we presented Ric the beaver, the response was immediate. What began as a “maybe someday” idea quickly became central to the brand’s identity.

We were intentional about making Ric more than a symbol. His illustration style is polished, but his personality adapts to the context. Sometimes he stands steady under an umbrella in the rain. Other times, he’s waist-deep in rising water while the homes behind him remain dry. When a payout is triggered, he beams. Relief is on the way.

Ric brings warmth to the brand and makes the concept of parametric insurance easier to grasp. He helps translate something technical and unfamiliar into something approachable and human (even when he isn’t). It’s proof that building trust around serious topics doesn’t require overly serious design.

Bringing it all together

The original site aimed to communicate the right ideas, but it required too much effort from the reader. The employer-benefit framing was there, just buried beneath competing information. You could read the entire page and still walk away unclear on the fundamentals.

The new website changes that. The value proposition is clear from the first line. Employers understand the offering immediately. Employees can quickly picture what it means for them. What once required careful reading now clicks almost instantly. An unfamiliar model starts to feel intuitive.

We loved working on this project and we’re proud of the final product. It was fast-paced, fun, and collaborative, and everyone showed up fully. We care deeply about supporting companies building products that genuinely help people as climate change reshapes everyday life, and Ric is one of them.

The DG+ team is truly fantastic. When I walked through the new homepage of our website for the first time, I was absolutely blown away. I gave very little direction and not a ton of material to work with, and yet they turned it into something special. It feels like they created magic from almost nothing. I’m grateful for their whole team and I can't wait for our broker partners to see it!
