About DG+

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn how DG+ supports clean energy and climate tech companies with marketing strategy, branding, websites, PR, content, HubSpot, and campaigns.

Working with DG+

Do you require long-term contracts?

Project-based work has a defined scope and timeline. Ongoing retainers require a minimum six-month commitment — long enough to build real momentum and deliver measurable results. We've found that shorter engagements rarely produce the outcomes clients are hoping for.

What size companies do you typically work with?

We work with companies at all stages — from pre-seed startups building their first brand to growth-stage companies running multi-channel campaigns to Fortune 500s managing large marketing teams. The right package depends more on your goals and where you are in your marketing maturity than your company size.

Accordion open arrow

How do you handle projects that span multiple service areas?

Most of our engagements do. A website refresh often involves messaging strategy and design. A campaign requires content, creative, and communications. We're a fully integrated team, so you work with one agency rather than coordinating across separate vendors for design, writing, PR, and web.

Accordion open arrow

Do you work with companies outside of clean energy or climate tech?

Occasionally, but it's not our focus. Our expertise and track record are in clean energy and climate tech, and that's where we deliver the most value. If you're adjacent to the space — sustainability, ESG, environmental advocacy — we're happy to talk.

Accordion open arrow

What does an engagement with DG+ actually look like day to day?

Every engagement includes a dedicated project team, a structured kickoff, biweekly check-in meetings, and a client-facing Asana board so you always know what's in progress. You can reach us on Slack, by email, or by phone — we work as an extension of your team, not at arm's length.

Accordion open arrow

What makes DG+ different from a general marketing agency?

DG+ works exclusively with clean energy and climate tech companies. That means you're not spending the first month educating us on your industry, your buyers, or the regulatory and technical context behind your products. We've worked with 100+ companies across solar, storage, grid software, EV, carbon markets, and more — so we already speak the language.

Strategy & Process

Do you offer strategy as a standalone service?

Yes. If you need a marketing strategy, communications plan, or campaign brief before committing to a longer engagement, we can scope that as a standalone project. It's also a good way to get to know how we work before a larger commitment.

Accordion open arrow

What if our goals change mid-engagement?

It happens, and we build in flexibility for it. We work on a retainer structure with defined scope rather than rigid line-item deliverables, which gives us room to shift priorities as your business evolves. We'll flag scope changes proactively and discuss adjustments together.

Accordion open arrow

Can you work with our existing brand guidelines and assets?

Yes. Many of our engagements build on existing brand systems. We'll audit what you have, identify gaps or inconsistencies, and work within your guidelines — or recommend updates if they're holding your marketing back.

Accordion open arrow

How involved does our team need to be?

We're built to reduce your workload, not add to it. That said, the best results come from a collaborative process — especially in the early stages when we're learning your business. Expect to invest meaningful time upfront in discovery and feedback, with a lighter lift as the engagement matures.

Accordion open arrow

Who do we work with on the DG+ team?

You'll have a dedicated account lead and a small project team that typically includes a strategist, writer, and designer. For web projects, a developer joins the team. You'll know everyone by name, and the same people will be with you for the duration of the engagement.

Accordion open arrow

How do you learn about our business before you start?

Every engagement begins with a structured discovery process — typically stakeholder interviews, a review of your existing marketing and sales materials, and a competitive landscape assessment. For brand and website projects, we also conduct audience research and an audit of your current digital presence. We want to understand your technology, your buyers, and what makes your work matter before we write a single word.

Branding & Messaging

What's the difference between brand messaging and campaign messaging?

Brand messaging is foundational — it defines who you are, what you do, and why it matters across all audiences and channels. Campaign messaging is specific to a particular initiative, audience, or offer. We develop both, and good campaign messaging always builds on a strong brand foundation.

Accordion open arrow

How do you develop messaging for technical products?

We start by deeply understanding the product, the buyer, and the decision-making process. Clean energy buyers are often sophisticated and technically fluent — generic marketing language doesn't work. We develop messaging that respects your buyer's intelligence while making your value proposition clear and compelling.

Accordion open arrow

We already have a logo and brand guidelines. Do we still need the Brand Foundation package?

Not necessarily. If your brand system is solid and consistent, we can build on it. The Brand Foundation package is designed for companies starting from scratch or undergoing a significant rebrand. If you just need messaging or a website, those can be scoped separately.

Campaigns & Lead Generation

Can you run a campaign if we don't have a CRM set up?

We can help you get there. DG+ has hands-on experience implementing HubSpot for lead capture, nurture workflows, and pipeline tracking. If you're running a lead generation campaign without a CRM, you're leaving a significant amount of value on the table — we'll build it into the engagement.

Accordion open arrow

What does a typical campaign deliverable set look like?

It varies by scope, but a standard campaign includes a strategy brief, audience and channel plan, creative assets (ads, email, social), a landing page, a thought leadership anchor piece (white paper or webinar), and a performance dashboard. We report regularly and optimize throughout.

Accordion open arrow

How long does it take to see results from a campaign?

Most campaigns take four to six weeks to build before they're fully live — strategy, creative development, and channel setup take time to do well. Once live, meaningful performance data typically emerges within the first four to six weeks of active running. We set realistic expectations at the start of every engagement.

Accordion open arrow

Do your campaign packages include paid advertising spend?

No — our fees cover strategy, creative, and management. Paid media spend is a separate budget item. We'll recommend a realistic spend range as part of campaign planning and can manage the buying on your behalf.

Accordion open arrow

What channels do you run campaigns on?

It depends on your audience. For B2B clean energy companies, LinkedIn, email, and targeted digital ads are often the highest-value channels. We also have experience with Google Search, industry publications, direct mail, and event-based outreach. Channel selection is always driven by strategy, not assumption.

Website Design & Development

Do you handle hosting?

Yes. For clients on one of our web maintenance packages, DG+ manages Webflow hosting, SSL, and platform costs. Clients who manage their own hosting are billed an annual platform fee.

Accordion open arrow

How do you approach SEO during a website project?

SEO is built into the process, not bolted on at the end. We develop a keyword strategy during discovery, apply it to page messaging and structure, and implement technical SEO — metadata, schema, performance optimization, and Google Analytics integration — before launch.

Accordion open arrow

Will we be able to update the website ourselves after launch?

Yes. Every Webflow site we build includes a CMS training session so your team can manage content, update pages, and publish new material without needing a developer. For teams that prefer ongoing support, we offer web maintenance packages.

Accordion open arrow

What's the difference between a website refresh and a full rebrand?

A website refresh updates messaging, design, and development while staying within your existing brand system. A full rebrand starts from scratch — new visual identity, new messaging framework, then a new website built on that foundation. If your brand is strong but your site is outdated, a refresh is usually the faster, more cost-effective path.

Accordion open arrow

What platform do you build on?

We build primarily in Webflow. It gives us flexibility for custom design and interactions, a powerful CMS for scalable content, and a clean handoff to your team for ongoing updates. We also have experience with WordPress for clients who require it.

PR & Communications

Do you handle crisis communications?

We can support communications strategy in sensitive or high-stakes situations, but dedicated crisis communications is a specialized discipline. If you're facing an active crisis, we'll be direct about whether we're the right fit and can refer you to specialists if needed.

Accordion open arrow

How do you measure success in a communications engagement?

We track coverage volume, outlet quality, share of voice relative to competitors, message pull-through (whether your key messages appear in coverage), and downstream impact on web traffic and social engagement. We set KPIs at the start of the engagement and report against them quarterly.

Accordion open arrow

What's the difference between a press release and media pitching?

A press release is a formal announcement document — useful for the record and for wire distribution, but rarely enough on its own to generate meaningful coverage. Media pitching is proactive outreach to specific journalists with a tailored story angle. The best communications programs use both, but pitching is where relationships and real coverage are built.

Accordion open arrow

What kinds of media outlets do you pitch to?

We prioritize outlets that reach your specific buyers — trade publications, industry newsletters, and podcasts in the clean energy and climate tech space. For companies with broader stories, we also pitch to business press and national outlets. We don't chase coverage for coverage's sake; we pitch stories that support your business goals.

Content Marketing

How do you approach email marketing?

We develop email strategy, write copy, design templates, and manage send schedules — typically through HubSpot. A strong email program for a B2B clean energy company usually combines a regular newsletter to nurture existing relationships with targeted campaign emails tied to specific offers or announcements. We build both and track performance throughout.

Accordion open arrow

Do you write content for SEO?

Yes. SEO is built into our content strategy from the start. We develop a keyword list based on what your buyers are actually searching for, map those keywords to content topics, and optimize each piece for search intent, structure, and metadata. We monitor ranking progress over time and adjust the strategy accordingly.

Accordion open arrow

How do you measure content performance?

We track organic traffic, time on page, social engagement, email open and click-through rates, content downloads, and — where CRM data is available — the role content plays in lead progression. We report on performance regularly and use the data to inform what to prioritize next.

Accordion open arrow

What's a gated asset, and do we need one?

A gated asset is a piece of high-value content — a white paper, research report, or webinar recording — that visitors access in exchange for their contact information. It's one of the most effective lead capture mechanisms for B2B companies with educated buyers. We include one gated asset per quarter in our Scale-phase campaign packages and can develop them as standalone projects as well.

Accordion open arrow

Can you manage our social media channels?

We support social media as part of a broader content program — developing copy, building content calendars, and aligning posts with broader campaign and editorial activity.

Accordion open arrow

What does a case study engagement look like?

We handle the full process: interview scheduling and preparation, conversation facilitation, writing, and design. We'll work with your team to identify the right customer stories, develop interview questions, and craft narratives that highlight real outcomes. Case studies are among the highest-value content assets for B2B clean energy companies, and we treat them accordingly.

Accordion open arrow

How many content pieces do we get per month?

It depends on the package. Our typical Content Marketing package delivers six pieces per quarter as a baseline, with the mix — case studies, articles, thought leadership — determined by your strategy and priorities. Volume can be adjusted based on scope.

Accordion open arrow

Do you interview our team to develop content?

Yes, and it makes a significant difference. Your subject matter experts have insights, opinions, and technical knowledge that can't be replicated from secondary research. We conduct structured interviews to extract that expertise and turn it into content that actually sounds like your company — not a generic agency voice.

Accordion open arrow

How do you decide what content to create?

We start with a content strategy that maps topics and formats to your audience's buying journey and your business goals. From there, we build an editorial calendar that balances SEO-driven content, sales-enablement pieces, and thought leadership. Content isn't produced in a vacuum — every piece has a purpose.

Accordion open arrow

What types of content do you create?

We write and produce a wide range of content — case studies, blog articles, thought leadership pieces, white papers, email newsletters, social copy, website copy, and sales collateral. Everything is written by people who understand clean energy and climate tech, which means the content reflects the actual nuance of your products and industry rather than generic marketing filler.

HubSpot Implementation

Can HubSpot help us prove the ROI of marketing to our leadership team?

That's one of its strongest use cases. HubSpot's reporting connects marketing activity — content views, email clicks, form fills — to pipeline and closed revenue, so you can show leadership exactly which efforts are driving business outcomes. For in-house marketing leaders who need to justify budget, this visibility is invaluable.

Accordion open arrow

How long does HubSpot implementation take?

A foundational implementation — CRM setup, website integration, basic email templates, and initial workflows — typically takes two to four weeks as part of a broader engagement. More complex builds with advanced automation, lead scoring, and custom reporting take longer and are scoped accordingly.

Accordion open arrow

What's a nurture workflow, and do we need one?

A nurture workflow is an automated email sequence triggered by a specific action — downloading a white paper, filling out a contact form, attending a webinar. It delivers relevant follow-up content to keep your brand top of mind while a prospect is evaluating their options. For B2B clean energy companies with long sales cycles, nurture workflows are one of the most cost-effective ways to stay in front of buyers between touchpoints.

Accordion open arrow

Can HubSpot replace our current email platform?

For most clean energy companies, yes. HubSpot's email tools are more than sufficient for newsletters, campaign emails, and automated nurture sequences — and having it in the same platform as your CRM is a meaningful advantage. If you're currently using Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or a similar tool, migration to HubSpot is usually straightforward and worth it.

Accordion open arrow

We already have HubSpot. Can you work within our existing setup?

Yes. We can audit and optimize existing HubSpot instances — cleaning up contact properties, improving workflow logic, building out reporting, and integrating HubSpot more tightly with website and campaign activity. An underused or disorganized HubSpot is a common issue we encounter with growing marketing teams.

Accordion open arrow

What does HubSpot implementation actually involve?

A typical implementation includes CRM setup and contact list migration, website tracking and form integration, email template design, list segmentation, and the configuration of automated nurture workflows. For campaign engagements, we also set up lead capture flows, pipeline stages, and reporting dashboards so your sales team has full visibility into marketing activity.

Accordion open arrow

Are you a certified HubSpot partner?

DG+ is a HubSpot Solutions Partner with hands-on implementation experience across the platform. We've set up HubSpot for clean energy companies at a variety of stages — from basic CRM configuration to full marketing automation, lead scoring, and multi-touch attribution.

Accordion open arrow

What is HubSpot and do we need it?

HubSpot is a CRM and marketing automation platform that connects your website, email marketing, and sales pipeline in one place. For B2B clean energy companies running lead generation campaigns, it's the infrastructure that makes everything trackable and actionable. Without it, you're generating leads with no reliable way to manage, nurture, or attribute them. We recommend it for most clients in Phase 2 and beyond.

Pricing & Engagement Structure

What happens at the end of a project?

You own everything. All creative assets, strategy documents, brand files, and website code are yours at the end of every engagement. We'll provide a structured handoff and, where relevant, training for your team on tools and platforms we've built or configured.

Accordion open arrow

Do you offer discounts for nonprofits or early-stage startups?

We work with mission-driven organizations across the clean energy space and aim to be a realistic partner at every stage. Reach out and tell us about your organization — we'll do our best to find a scope and structure that works.

Accordion open arrow

Can we start small and expand the scope later?

Absolutely. Many clients start with a focused project — a messaging framework, a pitch deck, a website refresh — and expand into an ongoing retainer once they've seen how we work. We're happy to structure engagements that grow with your needs.

Accordion open arrow

What's included in account management?

Account management is built into every engagement. That includes a dedicated account lead, project kickoff, biweekly meetings, a client-facing Asana board, and weekly status updates. We believe strong relationships produce better work.

Accordion open arrow

How does DG+ price its work?

We work primarily on retainer for ongoing engagements and fixed-fee project pricing for defined scopes. We don't bill hourly on retainers — you get a defined scope and a monthly commitment, which makes planning easier for both sides.
