Q&A with Lanie Meyers, marketing manager

DG+ is excited to welcome Lanie Meyers as our newest marketing manager. Lanie comes to us with a deep background in the cleantech industry, particularly in the EV sector, with previous roles held at AmpUp and Electra Vehicles. She brings rich startup growth experience, a passion for sustainability, and a breadth of marketing knowledge to the team. Learn more about her career journey, passions, and what drives her below.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I've been working in the cleantech industry for my entire career, and it's a field that I'm deeply passionate about. I started college at UMass Amherst, unsure of exactly what I wanted to focus on but knowing I wanted to study business. That's when I discovered the Sustainable Business Practice concentration within the Management major, which really sparked my interest. It felt like the perfect intersection of business and sustainability, and I've been focused on this ever since. It set me on a path to seek out internships and jobs where I could apply my business skills to make a positive impact on the environment.
My specialization has always been in marketing, though I've also dipped my toes in sales and operations. Every time, though, I've come back to marketing because it's where I feel I can contribute the most to the cause I'm passionate about. It allows me to use my best skill set to drive change in the cleantech space.
I’m also a lifelong Massachusetts resident. Both of my parents are public school teachers (my mom is recently retired), and they instilled in me a love of learning. My mom was a music teacher, so I’ve always been involved in music and singing. My dad was a science teacher, so I grew up asking a lot of "why" and "how" questions to better understand the world. They both have a strong sense of adventure, and that’s something they passed down to me as well — skiing, hiking, traveling. When I was younger, summers were spent on the road in a pop-up camper, exploring new places on a teacher's salary budget. Their curiosity and love of discovery have shaped who I am today.
Where did your interest in the environment come from?
It’s a bit of a two-part story. As I mentioned, my parents are professionally inquisitive as teachers. Growing up, I would go on full-summer road trips with my family. As a science teacher, my dad was always excited about learning and sharing what he knew, especially when we were exploring national parks, beaches, and mountains. I loved those trips because they gave me a chance to connect with nature. Some of my happiest memories are when I’m outdoors, feeling connected to the world around me.
As I got older and entered college, I started thinking more seriously about what I wanted my future career to look like. Climate change felt like the most pressing issue facing the world, and I realized that no other cause mattered as much. You can’t have thriving art, culture, or anything else that matters to humans unless the environment is in a good place. That realization made it clear that my focus needed to be on the environment and sustainability.
What’s your favorite part about working in the renewable energy sector?
I love that the renewable energy sector is so solutions-oriented. Every day you hear about new challenges, but working in this field feels like a way to do something practical about it. It opens my eyes to the many people dedicating their time and resources to finding solutions, and that’s inspiring. In a world full of negative news, it’s uplifting to be part of something that is actively working to create positive change. It gives me hope.
Why did you choose to work with DG+?
I chose to work with DG+ because it checks so many boxes for me. I want to continue honing my marketing skills, and DG+ is a space that values sustainability and clean energy — everything I’m passionate about. What really excites me, though, is the opportunity to be part of a team. I've often worked solo as a marketer, and I’m thrilled to collaborate with experts in communications and marketing from across the company. It’s a chance to learn from my colleagues and contribute to projects that really matter.
What do you hope to accomplish while on the DG+ Team?
My goal is to have an influence across multiple client teams and accounts. I want to learn as much as I can from the entire industry and then use that knowledge to elevate the companies with whom we work. Being able to impact a broad range of organizations — helping them grow, amplifying their messaging, and driving real change — feels like a good way I can contribute to the world at large, not just a singular organization.
Near or far, where in the world would you want to travel to next?
Colombia has been on my radar for a while. It seems like a place where you can experience everything — city life, rural charm, mountains, and beaches — all in one trip. Plus, I’ve been working on learning Spanish with Duolingo and Pimsleur, so I’d love to challenge myself to take it off the apps and use it in a real-world setting.
What's your favorite way to spend a day off?
I love exploring my local area, whether it’s spending time at my rock climbing gym with friends or checking out arts and music festivals. There’s always something happening in the Greater Boston area, and I enjoy being out and about with people, discovering new events, and soaking in the culture.
Tell us something fun or maybe unexpected about yourself.
I’ve never eaten meat in my life. Not even a chicken nugget or a hamburger! I was raised vegetarian, and it’s something I’ve stuck with over the years. Now, it’s become a bit of a personal challenge — seeing how long I can go without eating meat. I’m sure that’ll change at some point in my future travels!
