DG+ launches ‘The ABCs of Renewable Energy’ to introduce energy and climate to young readers

Today, we are thrilled to announce the launch of The ABCs of Renewable Energy — a new children’s book that introduces young readers to the exciting world of clean energy. Designed to be both educational and engaging, the book makes complex topics approachable through colorful illustrations and playful, age-appropriate language.
Talking with children about renewable energy and climate change can be hard. The issues are complex, and the language can be confusing. As adults who navigate these discussions daily, we wanted to create a tool that starts the conversation with curiosity and excitement. The ABCs of Renewable Energy explores foundational concepts from “A is for Air” to “Z is for Zero-Emission,” making renewable energy fun and accessible for kids — and enjoyable for grown-ups to read aloud.
The idea for the book began as a collaborative exercise to learn new skills and push our climate storytelling to new formats. The project features original illustrations by Mary Duncan-Sain, DG+’s senior visual designer. Her vibrant visuals bring solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles to life with charm and creativity. The text is written by Mel Phillips, a former DG+ team member. Kathleen Gill, another former team member, also contributed to the book.
